Pet Wellness

Our number one priority is keeping your pet healthy. Help us do so by bringing him or her in for their yearly wellness exams. Regular exams mean we can show you what health problems to look for and give you a chance to ask any questions or tell us about any new observations.

A typical wellness exam allow us to check-in on the following:

1. Physical Exam

Routine exams allow our doctors to complete a tip-of-the-nose to the tip-of-the-tail physical and provide the opportunity to note an changes. We'll check everything from your pet's ears, eyes and mouth, heart and lungs, check for lumps and bumps, and palpate their abdomen, just to name a few.

2. Annual Testing

Tick-borne diseases and heartworms has become significant problem in Maryland. Each year during your dog's wellness exam, we'll recommend a comprehensive blood screening for tick-borne diseases and parasites, checking for:

· Heartworm disease
· Ehrlichiosis
· Lyme disease
· Anaplasmosis

Our furry friends occasionally carry intestinal parasites that can be transferred to people. We'll request a stool sample to test for intestinal parasites at your pet's annual visits. The sample will be sent to an outside laboratory that specializes in testing for Giardia, roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms.

3. Parasite Prevention

We'll recommend a monthly heartworm preventive medication, as well as flea and tick treatments and yearly de-worming, as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

4. Pet Nutrition & Exercise

Unfortunately, more and more of our pet's are becoming obese, severely decreasing their life expectancy and time with us. Our veterinarians will discuss nutrition choices for your pet and whether a diet change is needed, as well as exercise tips and regiments.
